What is Cowboy Shooting?
Cowboy Action Shooting relives the Old West, or as close as we can get to it. Competitors dress in period clothing and choose an alias appropriate to the era. We shoot timed stages using a total of four pre-1900 design firearms or replicas. Two single action revolvers, which may include; Ruger Blackhawks, Ruger Vaqueros, Colt Single Action Armies/copies, or Single Action Cap and Ball revolvers. Also needed is a lever or pump action rifle, chambered in a pistol caliber; as well as a side-by-side, lever action or Winchester 1897 shotgun. Younger competitors are allowed to use revolvers and rifles in 22 caliber, and shotguns in 410 caliber. Using all lead bullets on steel targets, each stage is shot for speed and accuracy, with penalties for missing targets, incorrect engagement order, or safety violations. While this brief explanation may seem complicated, it really isn't. The best way to understand the Cowboy Shooting Club is to make time and come down to one of the Cowboy Shooting events on the calendar and give it a try.|
